Last week, we learned that Jon Watts would be moving from the Marvel Cinematic Universe over to Star Wars with a new series focused on a group of kids during the period after Return of the Jedi. That series now has an official title: Star Wars Skeleton Crew. The series, which is in pre-production now, has also announced its first star and it will be none other than Jude Law.
Per the official Star Wars twitter feed.
Law has been having a career resurgence in recent years with roles in the MCU film Captain Marvel as well as portraying Dumbledore in the Fantastic Beasts franchise. It is currently unknown what Law’s role in Skeleton Crew will be, but at this point I am going to lean in the direction of villain. Law is good in all roles but he would make one hell of an intimidating Star Wars antagonist. But would that be too obvious? It’s also possible that Law could play the hero this time.
During the Star Wars Celebration panel, Jon Watts and his screenwriter Christopher Ford revealed that the new series will focus on a group of kids who get lost in the Star Wars universe. Dave Filoni, who is producing alongside Jon Favreau, revealed that while the series focuses on kids, it is definitely not a kid’s show. Just how mature this series will remains to be seen.
Set during the same period as Ahsoka and The Mandalorian, there is the potential for crossover stories featuring those characters, but with production set to get underway in the near future, we will have some time to wait before we find out more. Stay tuned for more details as this story develops in the coming months, but do not expect to see Star Wars: Skeleton Crew until at least late 2023.
