Star Wars: Kathleen Kennedy teases plans for Sequel Trilogy characters

Since the Skywalker Saga concluded with Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, the majority of the Star Wars projects have dealt with the Original Trilogy timeline. With The Mandalorian (as well as the upcoming The Book of Boba Fett and Star Wars: Ahsoka) dealing with a post-Return of the Jedi timeline and Star Wars: Obi-Wan Kenobi and Andor settling in during a post-Revenge of the Sith timeline, it might seem as though Disney is ignoring the Sequel Trilogy, but Kathleen Kennedy has hinted that we haven’t seen the last of those characters.

Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy spoke with Empire in their upcoming Book of Boba Fett issue to tease that they do have plans for the Star Wars Sequel Trilogy characters.

Certainly, those are not characters we’re going to forget. They will live on, and those are conversations that are going on with the creative team as well.

It’s not much, and it certainly doesn’t offer any clue as to how the Sequel Trilogy characters would return, but I know many fans feel like there were certain characters who didn’t get all the story they deserved. There was plenty left unsaid when it came to characters like Jannah, Zorii Bliss, Maz Kanata, the Knights of Ren, and even Finn, who somehow got the short end of the shaft despite being one of the main characters of the Sequel Trilogy. John Boyega has implied that he’s open to returning to the Star Wars franchise down the road, and I’d love to see it happen.

Kathleen Kennedy also spoke about the “emotional” reunion between Ewan McGregor and Hayden Christensen in Star Wars: Obi-Wan Kenobi. Christensen will be reprising his role as Darth Vader and it’s been heavily implied that he will be facing off once against his former master once again. “The thing that was most exciting was being on the set and watching the two of them get excited,” Kennedy said. “They hadn’t seen one another in a long time. I was surprised at just how incredibly emotional it was for each of them to find themselves back in these roles, and just realizing how important Star Wars was to each of them.
