Taking place 4,000 years before the events of the original Star Wars trilogy, Knights of the Old Republic continues to be one of the very best Star Wars video games ever made. It was announced today that Sony Interactive Entertainment, Lucasfilm Games, and Aspyr Media are officially developing a Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic remake.
“We’re rebuilding one of the greatest RPGs of all time for a new generation with modern tech, features, visuals and more, while maintaining the integrity of the story and characters that we’ve come to cherish,” Aspyr Media’s Lead Producer Ryan Treadwell said. The original game found Dark Malak, a Dark Lord of the Sith, having unleashed a Sith armada against the Galactic Republic. As the player, you must venture to different worlds, interact with other characters, and shape the course of the galaxy. The Knights of the Old Republic remake will be rebuilding the game from the ground up with “the latest tech to match the groundbreaking standard of innovation establishing by the original, all while staying true to its revered story.” The project is still in the early stages of development, but I’d imagine that there are plenty of you out there who would be more than eager to give the story another shot.
While we’re talking remakes of classic Star Wars games, which ones would you like to see get a fresh coat of paint? Personally, I’d love to see a new version of the Dark Forces/Jedi Knight series. The lightsaber combat in Jedi Outcast hasn’t been beaten in my opinion.
