Could Ke Huy Quan join the Star Wars universe? Everything’s been coming up Milhouse for Ke Huy Quan since the enthusiastic actor dazzled audiences with his portrayal of Waymond Wang in The Daniels’ Best Picture-winning film Everything Everywhere All At Once. With his lethal fanny pack skills and can-do attitude, Quan’s resurfacing in Hollywood is the stuff of legend. After showing the world he’s still got what it takes to star alongside titans like Michelle Yeoh and Jamie Lee Curtis, offers for other notable projects arrived, including a prominent role in Marvel Studios‘ Loki Season 2. Quan plays Ouroboros (O.B.) in the time-bending Marvel series, a genius responsible for writing the TVA manual. With Loki’s season two finale in the rearview, Quan is doing what he can to remain a valued member of the Disney family. Speaking with Collider, Quan recalled a “shameless” encounter with Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy about joining the Star Wars Universe.
“I love the MCU. You know, I was able to connect with my Indiana Jones family during the award season. And, as you know, Kathleen Kennedy was the producer,” Quan said. “And she’s the head of Lucasfilm now. I did go up to her and I said, ‘Kathy, I would love to join the Star Wars family.’ That’s another wish list of mine. But honestly, I’ve been very lucky. I’ve been very lucky.”
“I was shameless when I saw Kathy!” he added. “I went up to give her a big hug. And I said, ‘Kathy, Kathy, please put me in the Star Wars universe!’ And what’s so great about it, if you think about it, it’s all under the Disney family, you know? So, I was lucky to be Short Round, which is also Disney. And, now MCU, and, you know, I want to stay in the family. It’s great.”
Quan’s next project is for the role of Dr. Amherst in Joe and Anthony Russo’s The Electric State. In the film, which is now in post-production, an orphaned teenager traverses the American West with a sweet but mysterious robot and an eccentric drifter while searching for her younger brother. Millie Bobby Brown, Chris Pratt, Stanley Tucci, Terry Notary, Martin Klebba, Patti Harrison, and Gabrielle Maiden also star.
As far as Hollywood comebacks go, Quan’s resurgence is a success story for the ages. His cheerful, sincere, and humble demeanor makes him a joy to cheer for as he continues to make friends and lend his talents to one exciting project after the next. I’d be surprised if Kennedy doesn’t find a way to make his dream of becoming a part of the Star Wars universe come true.
