Disney closing Star Wars Galactic Starcruiser hotel less than two years after it opened

Disney announces they are closing Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser hotel less than two years after it first opened.

Star Wars: Galactic Starcruise, closing, Disney World

Disney announced today that they will be closing Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser later this year. The two-day hotel experience gave guests the chance to step into a completely immersive Star Wars world, but with a bill pushing $6000 for a family of four, it was an experience not many could afford.

Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser opened at Disney World Resort in March 2022 and will be closing in September 2023, which isn’t a great life-span for the expensive attraction. Disney must have lost a bundle. “Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser is one of our most creative projects ever and has been praised by our guests and recognized for setting a new bar for innovation and immersive entertainment,” Disney said in a statement. “This premium, boutique experience gave us the opportunity to try new things on a smaller scale of 100 rooms, and as we prepare for its final voyage, we will take what we’ve learned to create future experiences that can reach more of our guests and fans.

Guests would arrive at the Walt Disney World Resort terminal and board a launch pod which took them to the Halcyon starcruiser. Over the course of two days, guests would interact with a variety of characters, enjoy galactic cuisine, go on secret missions, and even take a transport to Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge on Batuu. “While your story unfolds, you’ll have the power to choose your path,” reads the official description. “Will you follow the rule of the First Order or join the Resistance in a secret plot? Strike a bargain with a gang of smugglers or sit back, sip a cocktail and watch it all from a safe distance?” In concept, Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser was an amazing idea, but it was just too pricey for regular folks.

At the moment, new bookings for Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser have been paused, but they will reopen on May 26th. The final voyage of the Halcyon will take place on September 28-30th. For guests who had previously booked a voyage after that date, Disney will be contacting you soon to discuss options and modify plans.
