Big Star Wars expansion in the works for Disney’s theme parks

Last Updated on August 2, 2021

During a shareholder’s call yesterday, CEO Bob Iger revealed Disney is "developing designs for a far greater 'Star Wars' presence" in the company's theme parks. While some locations already have attractions like "Star Tours" (a 3D motion simulator) and "Jedi Training Academy" (an interactive show), Iger says the plan is to build new attractions for Disney's parks.

It's been rumored Disney has been interested in adding more Star Wars related attractions to their parks ever since the company announced plans for new movies for the franchise after purchasing Lucasfilm back in 2012. J.J. Abrams' STAR WARS: EPISODE VII will be hitting theaters next year, and Bob Iger says details of the park expansion will be revealed in 2015 as well.

Speaking of STAR WARS: EPISODE VII, Iger says "The footage we’ve seen so far is spectacular and certainly worthy of the fan frenzy and excitement this movie is generating around the world."

Are you excited for new Star Wars attractions at Disney's theme parks? And what type of attractions would you like to see?

Disney's STAR WARS: EPISODE VII will open on December 18, 2015.
