Update: Star Wars Episode VII filming in 2D IMAX

UPDATE: An earlier version of the story included information about a post conversion into 3D. IMAX has since told sources that the information was not correct.

Call your friends and family; invite the neighbors over, because it just got real folks. It's now official that J.J. Abrams is shooting STAR WARS EPISODE VII in IMAX. You might not be too surprised considering late last year we told you that Abrams was preparing to shoot the movie this way.

Slashfilm emailed an IMAX rep, who said “All we can say at this point is that we can confirm that JJ Abrams is using the IMAX camera for Star Wars: Episode VII.” They also confirmed it is shooting film. So Abrams is going 70mm IMAX for one of the most anticipated movies ever? Sounds about right. While many of us knew or at least assumed it would make its way to IMAX, it’s great to see STAR WARS getting the real treatment with IMAX cameras.
