Star Wars Celebration 2023 is pulling out all the stops with massive news about a new trilogy of films set in the Star Wars Universe! Returning for more adventure set in a galaxy far, far away is Daisy Ridley, who is reprising her role as Rey in the upcoming Star Wars movie directed by Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy (Ms. Marvel, 3 Bahadur: Rise of the Warriors). In addition to Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy, Dave Filoni, and James Mangold will direct other films in the franchise.
Obaid-Chinoy directs the first film in the new trilogy from a script by Steven Knight (Serenity, Dirty Pretty Things, Eastern Promises). The story takes place after the events of the latest Star Wars trilogy (The Force Awakens, The Last Jedi, The Rise of Skywalker), as Rey builds a new Jedi Order.
Filoni and Mangold helm other new films in the franchise. These projects include a movie centered on the dawn of the Jedi and the other on the New Republic.
In addition to news about Ridley’s return, Star Wars Celebration shared information about the second season of Andor, The Mandalorian spinoff Skeleton Crew, Ahsoka, starring Rosario Dawson as Ahsoka Tano, The Acolyte, and more!
While much of the new Star Wars footage was screened solely for the Celebration audience, an Ahsoka teaser trailer did drop online. The teaser trailer shows Dawson’s Ahsoka Tano searching for Grand Admiral Thrawn, a beloved villain in the Star Wars Universe. The footage introduces new characters, locales, and lots of action throughout the cosmos.
