One by one, we’ve seen Star Wars characters who made their debuts on animated shows make the leap to live-action. Deadline has reported that the latest will be Sabine Wren, the Mandalorian warrior who was introduced in Star Wars: Rebels. Sabine Wren will appear in live-action in the Star Wars: Ahsoka series and Deadline hears that the character will be played by Natasha Liu Bordizzo (The Society).
Star Wars: Ahsoka is being written by Dave Filoni, who will also executive produce alongside Jon Favreau. Rosario Dawson will reprise her role of Ahsoka Tano, which she first played in the second season of The Mandalorian. Natasha Liu Bordizzo made her film debut in Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon: Sword of Destiny and went on to appear in The Greatest Showman, Hotel Mumbai, The Society, Guns Akimbo, Most Dangerous Game, and The Voyeurs. It’s expected that the Ahsoka series will kick off production in early 2022, and I’m excited to see Sabine Wren join the live-action side of the franchise. In addition to Rosario Dawson and Natasha Liu Bordizzo, the Ahsoka series will also find Hayden Christensen returning as Anakin Skywalker.
If you’re not up on Star Wars: Rebels, here’s what the official Star Wars database has to say about Sabine Wren. “Sabine Wren was a Mandalorian warrior, explosives expert, and graffiti artist — qualities that came in handy as one of the first rebels against the Empire,” reads the report. “Part of the Ghost crew, Sabine used her gift for bomb-making to great effect against the Empire, and would often mark her work with spray-paint tags. Her classic Mandalorian armor was notable for incorporating her own custom stylings, reflecting her creative-meets-rebellious spirit.” Sabine Wren was last seen in the epilogue of Star Wars: Rebels heading off with Ahsoka Tano on a quest to bring Ezra Bridger home. During Ahsoka’s appearance in The Mandalorian, she was seen asking about the whereabouts of Grand Admiral Thrawn, who was last seen being dragged through hyperspace into parts unknown along with Ezra.
