Ahsoka Tano has had quite the journey. First appearing in Star Wars: The Clone Wars movie, it’s safe to say that the initial reaction to “Snips” was not a good one, but over the years, Ahsoka has grown and developed into one of the more beloved characters of the franchise. The character made the leap to live-action in the second season of The Mandalorian as played by Rosario Dawson and it wasn’t long before it was announced that she would be getting her own spin-off series. Star Wars: Ahsoka is being written by Dave Filoni, who recently spoke with Empire about how the series is coming along.
“It’s thrilling, I gotta tell you,” Dave Filoni said of the Ahsoka writing process. “It’s something you imagine doing for a long time. And then it’s kind of startling when you’re sitting there, and now you have to do it.” The series will give Filoni the chance to tell a story he’s always wanted to tell, even if he didn’t anticipate how it would originate.
I thought of this adventure for Ahsoka for a long time, and it’s interesting to see how it’s evolved. Years ago, I never would have imagined that it was sprung from a branch of a tree that had anything to do with a guy [like] Din Djarin, or a child that looks like Yoda. It’s a great lesson for me on how, when you have other creatives like Jon Favreau, they can help lend such dimension and depth to what you’re doing.
Rosario Dawson will once again reprise her role of Ahsoka Tano in the series and she’ll be joined by Natasha Liu Bordizo (The Society), who was recently announced to be playing Sabine Wren, another character making the leap from animation to live-action. The series will also see Hayden Christensen returning as Anakin Skywalker. Although the big-screen side of things seems to be a little uncertain, we’ve got plenty to look forward to with Star Wars on Disney+.
