James T. Kirk wasn’t the only captain of the U.S.S. Enterprise. The very first Star Trek pilot focused on Captain Christopher Pike (then played by Jeffrey Hunter) and since then we’ve seen the character pop up several times, most recently on Star Trek: Discovery as played by Anson Mount. Nearly sixty years later, Captain Pike will finally get to headline his own series that will debut this May. Paramount+ have released a new teaser poster for Star Trek: Strange New Worlds that features the a man on horseback gazing up at the Enterprise.
The man on horseback in the Star Trek: Strange New Worlds poster could very well be Captain Pike himself as the first Star Trek pilot did establish that he had several horses. In addition to Anson Mount as Captain Christopher Pike, Star Trek: Strange New Worlds also stars Rebecca Romijn as Number One, Ethan Peck as Spock, Babs Olusanmokun as Dr. M’Benga, Jess Bush as Christine Chapel, Celia Rose Gooding as Nyota Uhura, Melissa Navia as Erica Ortegas, Bruce Horak as Hemmer, and Christina Chong as La’an Noonien-Singh.
In regards to that last name, Star Trek: Strange New Worlds co-runner Akivia Goldsman confirm during the show’s Television Critics Association panel today that Chong’s character is indeed related to the infamous Khan Noonien-Singh. “She’s related to Khan, for sure, and, uh, and the deal will unfold…” Goldsman said. “We don’t want to bring folks into the show to be splashy. We want to dig deeply into characters that are part of our ensemble and then, obviously, we’re open to getting our arms … but right now, what you see is what you get.” Star Trek: Strange New Worlds is said to be a return to the more episodic style of the franchise and Paramount has already renewed the series for a second season.
The official synopsis for Star Trek: Strange New Worlds:
