Star Trek is a big source of content over at Paramount+. In nearly the same business mold, Paramount is providing a ton of lore for the Gene Roddenberry creation, similarly to Disney+ with the Star Wars franchise. New York Comic Con is currently underway (with our own Dave Arroyo in attendance) and has already sported some great surprises. Recently, the panel for the Star Trek properties dropped a couple of new trailers for the two biggest series in the franchise going on right now: Discovery and Picard, which features the surprise return of Moriarty from Star Trek: The Next Generation.
According to Deadline, the trailer for the fifth season of Star Trek: Discovery was showcased at the event and had been accompanied by the live-appearances of cast members Sonequa Martin-Green, Anthony Rapp, Wilson Cruz, as well as executive producers Alex Kurtzman, Rod Roddenberry and Michelle Paradise. The cast and crew announced some of the developments of the on-coming season.
“Callum Keith Rennie is set to play self-described “gruff” Starfleet Captain Rayner, a man having a very hard time transitioning from a time of war to a time of peace. Eve Harlow’s Moll and Elias Toufexis’s L’ak are former couriers now on the other side of the law.”
Deadline also has the update on the newest season of Star Trek: Picard which will be featuring the much anticipated reunion of the cast from the popular series, Star Trek: The Next Generation. The panel for Picard had star Patrick Stewart joined by Marina Sirtis, Gates McFadden, Michael Dorn, Levar Burton, Jonathan Frakes, Brent Spiner, as well as showrunner Terry Matalas, and fellow EPs Rod Roddenberry, and Alex Kurtzman. The buzz around this trailer not only glows with the return of the TNG cast, but the surprise return of Moriarty, Lore, and the Odyssey class Enterprise F.
Star Trek: Discovery is set to release on an unannounced date in 2023 and Star Trek: Picard will premiere on February 16, 2020.
