Star Trek: Picard renewed for season 3 at Paramount+ ahead of its season 2 premiere

Star Trek Day brought great news for Star Trek: Picard fans. A new Picard trailer revealed that the show will be launching its second season in February next year and it was also revealed that the show will be back for a third season.

Star Trek: Picard was actually technically renewed for its third season back in January 2020 as part of a two-season pickup for the series. The news yesterday made the third season renewal official. The plan at the time during the two-season pickup for the series was for season 2 and season 3 to film back-to-back. This was to be done to control costs and accommodate production schedules. This filming plan is said to still be in place despite some COVID delays and after the second season begins in February of next year, season 3 of Picard is expected to hit Paramount+ in early 2023. The writers’ room for season 3 has been up and running for more than a year.

Not much more was revealed about the third season but Seven of Nine herself Jeri Ryan took the stage to unveil more info about the upcoming second season. Season 2 will consist of 10-episodes that see Picard and his crewmates view a totalitarian future and leap back to a 21st century City of Angels to make things right. In addition to Stewart and Ryan, Picard Season 2 sees Alison Pill, Isa Briones, Evan Evagora, Michelle Hurd, Santiago Cabrera, Orla Brady, and Brent Spiner back for the show’s latest adventure.
