Nanu nanu! I'm only kidding, I'm perfectly aware that when it comes to Star Trek, fans are always hoping to boldly go where no one has gone before. Speaking of which, this afternoon, several actors have been added to the cast list of CBS All Access' STAR TREK DISCOVERY. That's cool, right? However, I'm about to sweeten the pot by reporting that everyone who's recently been named to climb aboard the long-awaited program hails from other quality television programs like BATTLESTAR GALACTICA, PENNY DREADFUL, and SUPERNATURAL!
Here's the full list of additions:
- Shazad Latif (“PENNY DREADFUL”): Lieutenant Tyler, a Starfleet officer in the Federation.
- Rekha Sharma (“BATTLESTAR GALACTICA,” “THE 100″): Commander Landry, the security officer of the Starship Discovery.
- Kenneth Mitchell (“JERICHO,” “THE ASTRONAUTS WIVES CLUB”): Kol, a commanding officer in the Klingon Empire.
- Clare McConnell (“DIM THE FLOURECENTS”): Dennas, a leader in the Klingon Empire.
- Damon Runyan (“SUITS,” “SUPERNATURAL,” “GANGLAND UNDERCOVERr”): Ujilli, a leader in the Klingon Empire.
Everyone listed above will join the cast of STAR TREK: DISCOVERY that already includes THE WALKING DEAD actress Sonequa Martin-Green, who will stand as the lead lieutenant commander, additionally, James Frain will star as Spock's father Sarek, while Anthony Rapp portrays an expert on space fungus (um, okay), and Michelle Yeoh as the captain in charge of the Starship Shenzhou. Other cast members include: Jason Isaacs as the captain of the Discovery; Terry Serpico as Admiral Anderson, a high-ranking official of Starfleet; Maulik Pancholy as Dr. Nambue, the chief medical officer of the Starship Shenzhou; Sam Vartholomeos as Ensign Connor, a junior officer in Starfleet Academy assigned to the Starship Shenzhou; and “The Office” alum Rainn Wilson in the role of Harry Mudd. Thanks for laying this out, Variety!
If you've been following along with the progress being made on STAR TREK: DISCOVERY, you're already well-aware of just how many roadblocks this series has incurred since the show was announced to be going into production. As of the moment, the program is expected to premiere in "late summer, early fall", but honestly, that could change at any time the way things have been going. I could go into the gritty details, but suffice it to say that much of the delay has been due to production-related issues and the expatriation of former showrunner Bryan Fuller, who as of now is still an executive producer on the show.
With any luck, we'll have a concrete premiere date to report on soon. In the meantime, why not boldly go back in the Star Trek catalogue of shows and enjoy some quality intersteller adventures while you wait for STAR TREK: DISCOVERY?
