If you loved A QUIET PLACE but thought that it needed a legion of flying critters as well as a shotgun-wielding Stanley Tucci, then you're in luck, because Netflix's algorithm will soon be bringing us THE SILENCE, a horror film adapted from the novel of the same name by Tim Lebbon. The film takes place in an apocalyptic world which is under attack from terrifying creatures who hunt their prey by sound. Ally Andrews (Kiernan Shipka), who lost her hearing three years earlier, and her family seek refuge from the creatures but unfortunately attract the attention of a sinister cult wishing to exploit Ally's heightened senses. Honestly, the trailer came across better than I expected it to, largely thanks to its decent cast, but THE SILENCE hardly feels like something you'd want to revisit after watching. For those of you assuming that THE SILENCE is a rip-off of A QUIET PLACE, the novel on which it is based was actually written in 2015.
The official synopsis for THE SILENCE:
When the world is under attack from terrifying creatures who hunt their human prey by sound, 16-year old Ally Andrews (Kiernan Shipka), who lost her hearing at 13, and her family seek refuge in a remote haven. But they discover a sinister cult who are eager to exploit Ally’s heightened senses. THE SILENCE is directed by John R. Leonetti (ANNABELLE) and stars Stanley Tucci, Kiernan Shipka, Miranda Otto, John Corbett, Kate Trotter and Kyle Breitkopf.
THE SILENCE will debut on Netflix on April 10, 2019.
