Standalone streaming service HBO NOW has been announced for Apple products

There are fewer and fewer remnants of they way entertainment was consumed that remain the same even as they did twenty years ago. With the rise of the Internet, our media consumption has changed. No longer are we tied down to cable or movie projectors as each of us carries an endless array of films and shows in our pocket. So, as cable and network television have become more creative and original than ever before, the biggest strike in the end of premium channels has arrived.

In a joint effort between HBO and Apple, the two companies have unveiled HBO NOW, the streaming app/service to get your favorite shows like BOARDWALK EMPIRE, THE SOPRANOS, GAME OF THRONES, and more without needing to pay for the premium channel itself. Similar in design to HBO GO, the streaming service for those who already have HBO, the new service will be available exclusively on Apple products like iPad and iPhone as well as Apple TV. All of this can be yours for the low price of $14.99 a month.

For the millions looking to escape the high cost of cable or satellite service for their movies and TV, this is a godsend. Combined with existing services like Netflix, Hulu, and Amazon Prime, consumers can now get almost everything they want without going through the normal bundled packaging options. I am sure Comcast is pissed right now, but this is a win for everyone else. I would expect the other big networks to follow suit.

HBO NOW will debut on Apple products beginning this April.
