Back in July, Sylvester Stallone revealed that he's planning to expand the world of Rocky with two new projects. When pressed against the ropes for more details, the Italian Stallion shared that he's interested in making a TV series that would serve as a prequel to the Rocky films. He also mentioned that he has an idea for a new movie, which would be set after the events of 2018's CREED II.
Not being the type of person to hold back, Stallone even teased his film idea for fans of the franchise: “Rocky meets a young, angry person who got stuck in this country when he comes to see his sister. He takes him into his life, and unbelievable adventures begin, and they wind up south of the border. It’s very, very timely.”
Whether or not a new film in the Rocky series would include Michael B. Jordan's Adonis Creed remains to be seen, though just this morning, Stallone released a video teasing that something "very special" is coming for Rocky fans, "in a few months."
In the video, Stallone can be seen standing in front of the famous Rocky statue, which stands triumphantly at the top of the Rocky Steps in Philadelphia Pennsylvania. After taking some time to reflect on the character's legacy and staying power, Stallone says that what he's got planned comes down to two words … "Keep punching."
What in the wide world of sports do you think Stallone could be referring to here? Is filming set to begin on another Rocky movie? Is the official word on a Rocky television series forthcoming? Perhaps there's a Rocky-themed Superbowl commercial in the works? Your guess is as good as mine, and honestly, I wouldn't rule any of the aforementioned possibilities out of the running. For now, we'll just have to wait for more informastion. In the meantime, if you're visiting Philadelphia this holiday season, why not pay a visit to the world-famous Rocky statue yourself? Just remember to bring some hand sanitizer, yeah?
The Rocky Statue and The Rocky Steps are located at 2600 Benjamin Franklin Parkway at Kelly Drive, Philadelphia, PA 19130.
