Sylvester Stallone has taken to social media plenty of times over the last few months to share some photos of him in his new movie, RAMBO V: LAST BLOOD, wherein he’s usually handling a giant gun, bow or knife and is covered in some mixture of sweat and blood. As awesome as that may sound to action fans there is a greater depth to the story of John Rambo that he’s looking to mine this time around, and Stallone recently shared some tidbits about where the action icon is at mentally come his final outing.

Stallone’s body of work is being honored at Cannes today (via Deadline), which includes showing a look at the new movie and a screening of the 4K restoration of FIRST BLOOD. Also part of that was sitting down for an interview and Q&A with Didier Allouch, and there Stallone talked about how this movie differs from the previous bloody outings.
“In every film, Rambo never goes home, he goes out the to the jungle or Afghanistan. In the new one, he does come home, but in a way he never arrives. He’s there, but he’s not. That’s what the whole story is built around. As soon as he walks outside his door, he has no more control. The world controls you.”
He continued
“We pick it up, he’s out in this storm, a horrible storm. He’s trying to rescue people. There’s a flash flood. One guy goes up by horseback, he volunteers to save people. He’s still dealing with survivor guilt, because he could save his friends in Vietnam. A result of PTSD. He has a hard time. He has a beautiful ranch, but he lives underground. This is how he deals with his dilemma. There’s something subterranean in Vietnam. He has an adopted family there. His father has passed on. The housekeeper who is 70 has a granddaughter. He’s her surrogate father.”
He also shared some photos of him in Cannes on the other end of a swarm of paparazzi

The story of LAST BLOOD finds Rambo heading to Mexico to save the daughter (Yvette Monreal) of an old friend, and as you can expect, things don’t go as planned. “Bad things happen,” says Stallone, “There’s going to be some serious vengeance in this movie. A lot of people getting hurt.”
What we can take from the title is that this is the last entry in the Rambo series for Stallone, which comes off him saying goodbye to the character Rocky after CREED II came out last November. However, the busy actor who hasn’t stopped in over four decades still can’t quite shake the character that made him famous, and during the interview shared a quick idea he has for another Rocky outing.
“I have a great idea for Rocky. He finds this fella in the country illegally and it becomes a whole thing,” says Stallone. Allouch leaped in, saying, “Donald Trump’s favorite movie…”
“It’s like the magician who lost his tricks,” Stallone continued. “You’ve seen everything, but what can be different? Throw him out of the country, he’s another world.”
In a few months RAMBO V will hit theaters, which means we could be seeing a trailer for the movie not too long from now. Perhaps it will arrive even sooner if some footage is going to be shown at Cannes, because why should they get to have all the fun? Even though he has more ideas for Rockey perhaps its better he leave it at where CREED II ended, with him patching things up with his son. Between the famed boxer and Rambo now is the time where he needs to be sending off his beloved characters, if only so that we don't have to keep wondering how he does all that strenuous activity in his 70s.
