Sylvester Stallone’s career has seen several highs and moments that would make any performer proud of their legacy. But Stallone is singling out one moment, the making of the 2006 film Rocky Balboa, as the most memorable during his years in the business.
Stallone is no stranger to sharing behind-the-scenes highlights on his social media and, just recently, the actor posted a tribute to 2006’s Rocky Balboa. He said that the film was an underdog to get made and he called it the most memorable film moment of his career. The actor admitted that Rocky Balboa was “considered a joke” at first but he was still able to make this film “against all odds.” Part of his caption reads, “When people ask what is your most memorable film moment. Rocky Balboa, without a doubt. That was the ultimate challenge. The first Rocky of course was amazing… But this one was almost impossible dream. I pushed that boulder uphill for 12 long years against overwhelming negativity until it finally happened… Almost by accident. Someday I’ll tell the whole story.
The irony is a Rocky Balboa had never been done, even though no one wanted to do it, the story of Creed would’ve never been made.” You can check out Stallone’s full Instagram post below!
Rocky Balboa was written and directed by Stallone himself and he also stepped back in front of the camera as the titular character. The film serves as a sequel to 1990’s Rocky V and it centers on an aging Balboa as he is now retired and a widower living in Philadelphia. 30 years after the events of the first film, Balboa comes out of retirement for his final fight against the reigning heavyweight champ Mason ‘The Line’ Dixon (Antonio Tarver). While some doubted the film’s performance, Rocky Balboa was an unexpected box office success, grossing $70.2 million at the domestic box office and $156.2 million globally on a $24 million budget. Critics were also impressed, gracing the film with a fresh rating of 77% on Rotten Tomatoes.
