Fox's Gotham TV show continues to take shape as more castmembers have been added. Robert Lord Taylor will play Oswald Cobblepot/aka The Penguin, while veteran thesp Sean Pertwee (DOG SOLDIERS) will play Alfred Pennyworth, the longstanding butler to the Wayne family. Jeremy Irons was recently cast as Alfred in the next big screen iteration of the character for BATMAN VS SUPERMAN, but Pertwee will be playing a younger version of the character, as Gotham takes place in the years just after Bruce Wayne's parents are murdered.
Lord Taylor's Penguin is described as such:
With the brains of a chess grandmaster and the morals of a jackal, Cobblepot is a low-level psychopath for gangster Fish Mooney, and hides his sadistic lust for power behind an exquisitely polite demeanor.
Pertwee's Alfred is described as:
Alfred Pennyworth, Bruce Wayne’s butler, will be played by Sean Pertwee. A tough-as-nails ex-marine from East London, Pennyworth has loyally served the Wayne family. Now, in the wake of their tragic deaths, he’s fiercely protective of the young Bruce Wayne — the boy who will eventually become Batman.
With the recent casting of Ben McKenzie as lead Detective James Gordon, the new comic-book themed show seems to be attuning itself closely to its comic book roots, complete with a long roster of known characters, a model which is followed on CW's Arrow and is only recently being followed by Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. It's a promising development for the show. I'll definitely be tuning in for the pilot.
Gotham is set to start shooting in March 2014 for a potential fall debut.
