Spot some familiar faces in the new images from Goosebumps with Jack Black

If last week’s debut images for the upcoming adaptation of R.L. Stine’s GOOSEBUMPS weren’t enough, roll your chair this way for a look at some monsters! The film is coming out next year and by the sounds of it so far, it could make for a pretty fun times for fans of the series. I grew up reading these books and managed to hold onto the complete original series for a while until the great flood of ‘99.

Here is the synopsis for the GOOSEBUMPS movie:

Upset about moving from a big city to a small town, teenager Zach Cooper (Dylan Minnette) finds a silver lining when he meets the beautiful girl, Hannah (Odeya Rush), living right next door. But every silver lining has a cloud, and Zach's comes when he learns that Hannah has a mysterious dad who is revealed to be R. L. Stine (Black), the author of the bestselling "Goosebumps" series. It turns out that there is a reason why Stine is so strange…he is a prisoner of his own imagination – the monsters that his books made famous are real, and Stine protects his readers by keeping them locked up in their books. When Zach unintentionally unleashes the monsters from their manuscripts and they begin to terrorize the town, it's suddenly up to Stine, Zach, and Hannah to get all of them back in the books where they belong.

USA Today included the following information about the villain, a fan-favorite:

The culprit behind all the monsters getting loose is Slappy, an evil ventriloquist's dummy who gets around in a haunted car. He also bears more than a passing resemblance to Black — Slappy is a piece of Stine's subconscious mind come to terrifying wooden life.

That sounds like a fantastic way to take these books the big screen and involve a lot of the characters we remember. One in particular, playing the villain of course, you can see below. Do you remember Slappy from “Night of the Living Dummy”? My nightmares are coming back to me now. I also spotted characters from “Vampire Breath” and “The Curse of the Mummy's Tomb’ but correct me if I’m wrong in the comments.

Directed by Rob Letterman (GULLIVER'S TRAVELS, MONSTERS VS. ALIENS), GOOSEBUMPS is set to hit theaters on August 7, 2015.
