Spoilers: Watch Get Out’s original ending right here

I guess I should preface this post by saying that it includes major spoilers for GET OUT. But do I really need to? Whatever, I'm going to. BEWARE SPOILERS. There, my public service has been done for the day. Moving on.

Back in March, we let you guys know that Jordan Peele's GET OUT originally carried with it a darker and more disturbing ending. Back then I theorized that the original ending was the same one you and your mother feared as well when those cop lights pulled up at the end. 

"Oh, sh*t. It's that damn blonde cop with the gun!

Turns out we were all half right about the ending. The cops were supposed to show up, but they wouldn't have just shot our hero and have been done with it – which, I guess would have been too real… Anyways, you can check out Jordan Peele's thoughts on the original ending as well as the original itself in the video below.

Peele explained:

There is an alternate ending in which the cops actually come at the end. He gets locked up and taken away for slaughtering an entire family of white people and you know he’s never getting out, if he doesn’t get shot there on the spot.

In the beginning when I was first making this movie the idea was, ‘OK, we’re in this post-racial world, apparently.’ That was the whole idea. People were saying, ‘We’ve got Obama so racism is over, let’s not talk about it.’ That’s what the movie was meant to address. Like look, you recognize this interaction. These are all clues, if you don’t already know, that racism isn’t over. So the ending in that era was meant to say, look, ‘You think race isn’t an issue? Well at the end, we all know this is how this movie would end right here.’

So why did Peele go with the happier ending?

It was very clear that the ending needed to transform into something that gives us a hero, that gives us an escape, gives us a positive feeling when we leave this movie. There’s nothing more satisfying than seeing the audience go crazy when Rod shows up.

Yeah, I agree, Jordan Peele. While this ending is a more realistic fit to the film, I don't think it quite mixes with the tone of eerie fun the film carried with it. That or I'm just making up excuses because I wanted Rod to save the day myself… "TSA, bitches!"
