"It's definitely gorier and smarter."
The new Ridley Scott directed ALIEN prequel ALIEN: COVENANT will be hitting theaters on May 19th. Scott, along with stars Danny McBride and Katherine Waterston were at SXSW recently and Fandango conducted an interview with them in which Ridley gave possibly too many details about the future of the ALIEN franchise away.
Let it be know that some of the following might venture into spoiler territory, do be warned.
Scott how Covenant would separate itself from PROMETHEUS:
It's beginning to answer the who and why. It's definitely gorier, and smarter. And [Covenant] starts to answer the who and why."
Scott on if Noomi Rapace will return:
"Yes, in a way. Not fully, but in a way. She was integral to what David carried out later."
It seems right about here, Katherine Waterston felt that Mr. Scott was in danger of possibly giving too much away. So she jumped in with:
"You'll see! There are certain things you don't want to know. You don't want to know that!"
Hahahaha. This interview is great. Moving on, Ridley Scott then goes one to talk about how many more ALIEN movies there will be, and basically gives away the title of the next film:
"There will be another one before we kind of literally and logically, clockwise, back into the rear back head of [the original] Alien. It will go Prometheus, Awakening, Covenant.. fairly integral where this colonization ship is on the way…."
Cue Waterston jumping in again to save Ridley from himself:
"You're giving away too much! But yes, there will be more after this. I think that was the question."
To which Scott replied:
"If this is successful, and then the next one, and then there will definitely be three more."
Will the next three ALIEN films happen after 1979's ALIEN? Scott says, no. Been there, done that.
Okay, so all of that means;
A) There might be another Alien movie called ALIEN: AWAKENING
B) It might come between the events of Prometheus and Covenant.
C) The next one would complete a trilogy
D) Scott has another three Alien films in his mind.
E) Those next three films would also take place before ALIEN.
Woo. That was quite a bit of info to decipher there. Anyhow, I'll let you guys know if Scott slips up and reveals more info on ALIEN: COVENANT before the film hits us on May 19th.
What in fresh-hell did David's crazy-ass do to Shaw?!
