A new piece of concept art for IRON MAN 3 has been revealed, featuring Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr.) caught by surprise with gunmen closing in. The artwork will be given out as a poster at this year’s San Diego Comic Con and is painted by frequent Marvel concept artist Ryan Meinerding.
Take a look:
There’s plenty of speculation to be had with this image, from the half-assembled armor, the gun-toting villains(?), and the location (Stark’s home?). We could go around the clock on all of it, but no matter what, it’s just cool to see some official work from the film…even if it’s painted.
Director Shane Black (KISS KISS, BANG BANG) is at the helm this time, which makes me ecstatic, and with a flood of set photos and casting additions in the last few months the anticipation is kicking off early for the armored avenger’s third outing. The script is borrowing many elements from the “Extremis” storyline in the comics, but not exclusively. I have no doubt that Black will have some serious ass-kickery in store for us, not to mention some surprising twists throughout.
Thus far, this is looking to be the most promising of Marvel’s Phase Two films.
IRON MAN 3 stars Robert Downey Jr., Gwyneth Paltrow, Ben Kingsley, Don Cheadle, James Badge Dale, Guy Pearce, Rebecca Hall, William Sadler, Jon Favreau, Paul Bettany, and Cobie Smulders (yes!) and is slated to open on May 3, 2013.
