Deck the halls with boughs of holly with Will Ferrell and Ryan Reynolds this year. The comedy duo will be co-starring in a new interpretation of the Charles Dickens’ classic A Christmas Carol. The new film, Spirited, is a comedy musical from writer and director Sean Anders, who helmed both the Daddy’s Home films, also starring Ferrell. The new film is an Apple Original and will be gift wrapped for subscribers of AppleTV+ this holiday season.
The new trailer has just been released by Apple and also provides this official synopsis:
“Each Christmas Eve, the Ghost of Christmas Present (Will Ferrell) selects one dark soul to be reformed by a visit from three spirits. But this season, he picked the wrong Scrooge. Clint Briggs (Ryan Reynolds) turns the tables on his ghostly host until Present finds himself reexamining his own past, present and future. For the first time, ‘A Christmas Carol’ is told from the perspective of the ghosts in this hilarious musical twist on the classic Dickens tale.”
The songs in this musical are by Oscar-winners Benj Pasek and Justin Paul, who provided the music for La La Land. Ferrell and Reynolds are joined by Octavia Spencer, Sunita Mani, Patrick Page, Joe Tippett, Marlow Barkley and Jen Tullock to round out the cast. Production numbers for the musical sequences were choreographed by Chloe Arnold, who has worked on the late night talk show, The Late Late Show with James Corden.
Spirited is produced by Sean Anders and John Morris through Two Grown Men Productions, David Koplan, George Dewey through Maximum Effort Productions, Will Ferrell and Jessica Elbaum through Gloria Sanchez productions.
Ferrell is already cemented in a holiday classic with Jon Favreau’s Elf. Will this be another great holiday movie to become a Christmas tradition? It would be hard amongst the many Christmas Carol incarnations, but this just proves how timeless the original truly is.
Spirited will premiere in theaters on November 11 and globally on Apple TV+ on November 18, 2022.
