Spirit says Barbie dominates the top Halloween costumes of 2023

It’s finally fall, which means Halloween is officially upon us – OK, for some of us it started after Labor Day. But let’s face it: even if your yard has yet to be decked out in a 13-foot Jack Skellington or those dreadful faux cobwebs that are rendered useless after an overnight rain, it’s time to get our Halloween costumes in order. Fortunately, if you’re still looking, Spirit Halloween has you covered, naming the top costumes of the year.

Spirit Halloween has been one of the go-to shops for Halloween costumes since it opened 40 years ago and this year is certainly no different. But as you can imagine, most of their picks for “the most exciting looks of 2023” tie into some of the biggest movies and TV shows of the year. For starters, they single out Barbie – which has taken in $1.43 billion worldwide – by showcasing the multiple options out there, including a pretty snazzy yet impossible-to-pee-in Barbie box.

If Barbie’s not your style and you want to go a little darker, Spirit may not offer a J. Robert Oppenheimer Halloween costume but they are pushing takes on staples like Michael Myers, Freddy Krueger and Ghostface, in addition to exclusive get-ups for your favorite Universal Monsters.

And since group Halloween costumes are always in play, Spirit has plenty to choose from on that front, too. Got a family of four? Why not go as the Bluey crew? Are the kids growing up and into more family-friendly horror? Take ‘em out as characters from The Nightmare Before Christmas. Want to really put on a show? Get the gang together to hit some parties as the Killer Klowns from Outer Space. Hey, it’ll at least give you a fix until the video game comes out.
