Earlier this year, we heard that Christopher Lloyd (Back to the Future) and Rachael Leigh Cook (She’s All That) had signed on to star in a feature film based on the retail outlet Spirit Halloween. Now a trailer has arrived online to confirm that the appropriately titled Spirit Halloween: The Movie will be released just in time to creep out the whole family this Halloween season. The movie is set to receive a VOD release on October 11th, and you can check out the teaser trailer in the embed above!
Directed by David Poag from a screenplay by Billie Bates, Spirit Halloween: The Movie tells the following story:
When a Spirit Halloween Store opens in a deserted strip mall, three middle school friends who think they’ve outgrown trick or treating make a dare to spend the night locked inside the store Halloween night. But they soon find out that the store is haunted by an angry evil spirit who has possessed the creepy animatronic characters. The kids will need to embark on a thrilling and spooky adventure in order to survive the night and avoid becoming possessed themselves.
Lloyd and Cook are joined in the cast by Marla Gibbs (The Jeffersons), Donovan Colvan (Chapelwaite), Marissa Reyes (Raven’s Home), Jaiden J. Smith (Two Sentence Horror Stories), Dylan Martin Frankel (Life & Beth), and Brad Carter (Ozark).
Spirit Halloween: The Movie is coming to us from Strike Back Studios, Hideout Pictures, and Particular Crowd. Strike Back’s Noor Ahmed said, “One of the reasons I immediately connected with the script is it is very much inspired by some of my favorite kid adventure films growing up, from The Goonies, Gremlins, Monster Squad and so many great films made by Amblin Entertainment.”
It does look like this will be a fun movie for genre fans to watch with their kids this Halloween season – and a nice “gateway” horror movie to help youngsters get into the genre.
