Chris Rock and director Darren Lynn Bousman's SAW reboot SPIRAL: FROM THE BOOK OF SAW with Samuel L. Jackson was all set to bring the pain to a theater near you this Summer. And tonight we learned the movie has been pulled from release. Go figure.
Bousman broke the news over on Twitter, writing:
As I am sure you have all guessed, SPIRAL too has feel victim of COVID-19. We have officially pushed our release date. While I am excited for you all to see the macabre madness we have in store for you, no narrative we could tell is worth the risk of endangering our fans and supporters. While I am bummed you will have to wait a little longer, I am relieved there is time to deal with this virus and the effect it is having on our world. Worry not, once we figure out this coronavirus SPIRAL will be ready and waiting. Stay safe out there. Much love. DLB.
ANTEBELLUM and RUN have lost their release dates as well.
This re-imagining has – gasp – been rated R for "sequences of grisly bloody violence and torture, pervasive language, some sexual references, and brief drug use." It is being touted as
An amped up level of deviously treacherous traps, clever clues and the edge-of-the-seat suspense they expect from one of the world’s most terrifying horror franchises.
Bousman directs the new flick from a script based on a story by Chris Rock and written by Pete Goldfinger and Josh Stolberg. It will be executive produced by Chris Rock, long-time executive producer Daniel Heffner and the original creators James Wan, and Leigh Whannell. It will be produced by longtime SAW producers Mark Burg and Oren Koules. Originally set to be unleashed in October – then May – now there's no telling.
We'll keep you updated.
