Spielberg brings Robopocalypse to life in a possible feature film!

Last Updated on July 23, 2021

Spielberg loves his machines and that’s an honest fact. In TRANSFORMERS the man with the beard was acting as Executive Producer but there’s no telling what the man will do when he’s behind the camera filming a bunch of robots knocking each other (and us) to kingdom come.

That’s when Vulture announced that Spielberg is currently interested in a robot film that involved machines destroying the world. You heard me right. Think TRANSFORMERS but amped up to the nth degree with us as the target (victims). Interested? Keep reading.

DreamWorks optioned a novel by Daniel H. Wilson (due to be published next June) called Robopocalypse that sources tell us Spielberg has been considering making his next project. And when Hollywood hears that Spielberg is excited about something, they get excited, too: A new draft of the Robopocalypse adaptation has just been handed in by Drew Goddard (co-writer of Cloverfield, and the director of MGM’s lamentably-delayed The Cabin in the Woods), and the town is desperate to get their hands on it.

The film is actually based on an un-published novel of the same name by Daniel H. Wilson. Wilson actually wrote the previous entry HOW TO SURVIVE A ROBOT UPRISING back in 2005. The book featured tips and “how to’s” on defending yourself against a “coming robot rebellion.” You can probably guess where the material for his next book ROBOPOCALYPSE comes from. The man actually has a Ph.D in Robotics. Go figure.

With that said it’s going to be interesting to see what the rest of the cinematic world thinks of Spielberg’s new interest. Will they ride the wave to create yet another Robot fad? Actually the robot fad is underway with another robot flick coming next year called RED STEEL. Oh the joys of mob mentality on a wider scale. So what do you guys think? Yes? No? Bring on the robot rebellion?
