Spider-Man: No Way Home producers Kevin Feige and Amy Pascal are riding high on the immediate success of that film and now they’re talking about the possibility of some of their other properties coming together in one big crossover movie event. Sony Pictures is set to open Morbius next month while Marvel is in development on Blade with Mahershala Ali and both producers say that a crossover movie featuring the two characters could possibly happen.
During an interview with Geeks of Color, Feige and Pascal were asked about seeing Blade and Morbius team up in the MCU and both producers seemed pretty interested in the idea. Pascal went on to say, “Blade and Morbius, that’s a cool idea. You know the future, you never know what’s going to happen. There’s all sorts of possibilities.”
It isn’t confirmed if Morbius the Living Vampire and Blade are in the same universe but it would make some sense if they made it happen. Since Blade is a vampire hunter and Morbius is a vampire, the conflict is already there for the characters to begin an interesting narrative arc in a crossover film. On Spider-Man: The Animated Series Morbius is featured as the main antagonist in season two and first appears in human form in the “Insidious Six” two-part episode as he romances Felicia Hardy (aka the Black Cat). In the episode entitled “Morbius”, he steals a vial of Peter Parker’s blood on the belief that this was part of Parker’s entry in a science competition that they were both competing in. When examining the blood in his laboratory, one of the vampire bats he was experimenting on escapes and gets a taste of the blood before biting Morbius. This infects the doctor and turns him into a living vampire.
Following the incident, the character becomes the villain of four episodes of the series, and one of them is “Blade the Vampire Hunter”, which introduces us to Blade on the animated show. During his initial appearances as the living vampire, Morbius goes on a rampage to turn everyone into vampires but he is stopped by Spider-Man and Blade in the episode “The Immortal Vampire.” During the season four episode “The Vampire Queen”, Morbius stops becoming an evil bloodsucker thanks to a serum created by Abraham Whistler, also from the Blade universe, which suppresses his vampiric urges for human blood. Morbius and Blade ultimately join forces with Black Cat to stop Blade’s evil mother Mirium in the episode “The Vampire Queen.” Needless to say, even if this isn’t all comic book accurate, the animated series shows that Morbius and Blade would make sense for a crossover movie event.
Do YOU want to see a Blade and Morbius crossover? Morbius, starring Jared Leto as the titular character, hits screens on January 28, 2022.
