Sony Pictures had to move fast on Sunday to block what appeared to be the leaked trailer for Spider-Man: No Way Home. The trailer is set to debut during Sony’s presentation at CinemaCon in Vegas but one theory suggests that a VFX house leaked the trailer online.
Spider-Man: No Way Home began trending on Twitter after various accounts began sharing what appeared to be the trailer while other users began reacting to all the attention that the alleged leak might face. Sony was obviously aware this COULD happen and soon tweets that shared the video were taken down and slapped with a copyright statement that read “The media has been disabled in response to a report from the copyright owner.”
While I haven’t personally looked at the leak because I’d rather wait for the official debut, “The Hollywood Reporter” viewed the leak and they believe that its contents were legitimate. No details were shared about the video but they pointed out that Sony was in a sort of sitcom situation blocking the video because as soon as they would block one tweet, another would immediately pop up. The need for secrecy is a priority in this particular film because there have been a lot of rumors and speculation about what happens in this film and they want to keep up the element of surprise as long as they can.
Spider-Man: No Way Home is once again directed by Jon Watts and stars Tom Holland, Zendaya, Jamie Foxx, Alfred Molina, Benedict Cumberbatch, Jacob Batalon, Marisa Tomei, and J.J. Smoove. While plot details are being highly guarded, there’s speculation that the film will deal in some way with the multiverse which is why so many fans are patiently waiting for the first trailer to drop.
