Box Office: Spider-Man: No Way Home remains number one during a weekend with no new wide releases

On a weekend when we had no new wide releases to speak of, Spider-Man: No Way Home easily retained the top spot at the box office.

Spider-Man: No Way Home grossed $11 million over the weekend and that represents a drop of just 24% from the previous weekend. What we’re seeing with the film’s numbers is that the movie is still getting repeat business as it’s the only tentpole release at the multiplex. As of now, Spider-Man: No Way Home has grossed a massive $735.9 million domestically which means it needs to gross a little over $24 million to dethrone Avatar on the all-time domestic list. Considering how the film has been performing with slim declines, it’s a strong possibility that Spidey will get that title. Globally the film has soared to $1.75 billion.

In second place we find Scream with a gross of $7.35 million. That’s a drop of 40% from the previous weekend and a much better hold from its second-weekend decline. Scream brings its domestic tally to $62.1 million and the film crossed the $100 million mark worldwide over the weekend which has to make Paramount Pictures very happy considering its slim $24 million budget. Bring on Scream 6!!!!!!

In third place Sing 2 is still putting up decent numbers with a gross of $4.8 million. That’s a decline of just 17% which is a great hold considering the film is available at home now via PVOD. After this weekend, Sing 2 brings its domestic tally to $134.5 million.

Hanging on in fourth place is Redeeming Love which grossed $1.85 million. The film is basically hanging on to its top five position because there isn’t any new content to speak of at the box office. The film has brought its domestic total to $6.5 million and it won’t be much of a thought after this slow January weekend.

Rounding out the top five is The King’s Man with a gross of $1.75 million. To the film’s credit, it has remained in the top five box office results since its release right before Christmas. Had the film opened to better numbers, I’d be calling the film a hit but the movie simply didn’t come out of the gate big enough to resonate. The film currently has a running total of $34 million at the domestic box office.
