The backup plan for Spider-Man: No Way Home was a Kraven the Hunter story

Spider-Man: No Way Home is nearly here and it will be bringing the multiverse along with it. We aready know that the film will feature the return of characters from the past twenty years of the Spider-Man franchise, incuding Doctor Octopus (Alfred Molinia), Electro (Jamie Foxx), Green Goblin (Willem Dafoe) and more, but that required a lot of behind-the-scenes juggling. So what would have happened if the multiverse concept wasn’t able to come together? According to Tom Holland, there was a backup plan in place for Spider-Man: No Way Home that would have introduced Kraven the Hunter.

While speaking with Collider, Tom Holland and Zendaya discussed their first thoughts when Marvel told them about the multiverse. “When I first heard about [the multiverse], I was like, ‘okay cool, but that’s definitely not going to happen,’” Zendaya said. Tom Holland added that Spider-Man director Jon Watts had a fairly fleshed-out idea for a Kraven the Hunter story in case things fell apart with the multiverse.

For a long time, there was going to be a Kraven movie that was going to be the third movie because things weren’t working out and all sorts of different stuff. Jon pitched me this Kraven movie, which actually was really cool. I don’t want to talk about it in case that movie ends up happening down the line, but it was fun.

Although Tom Holland had teased that Spider-Man: No Way Home could be his last adventure, producer Amy Pascal has confirmed that they’re working on new Spider-Man movies. Although we may not be seeing Kraven the Hunter in Spider-Man: No Way Home, Sony is working on a standalone Kraven movie starring Aaron Taylor-Johnson, so perhaps we’ll see the two face off somewhere down the road.

Spider-Man: No Way Home will find Peter Parker (Tom Holland) turning to Doctor Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch) for help when he’s unmasked and is no longer able to separate his normal life from the high-stakes of being a superhero. After some magical meddling, the stakes become even more dangerous, forcing him to discover what it truly means to be Spider-Man. Spider-Man: No Way Home will hit theaters on December 17th.
