Last night was one of the biggest nights of the year for animation with the presentation of ASIFA-Hollywood’s 46th Annie Awards, honoring the best in animated movies, TV and more. As to be expected, SPIDER-MAN: INTO THE SPIDER-VERSE dominated the evening by winning all seven of its awards, including Best Animated Feature, pushing it one step closer to winning the Best Animated Film award at the Oscars.

The movie triumphed over heavy competition last night, including once odds-on favorite to win all the animation awards – Pixar’s INCREDIBLES 2. Along with the best feature prize, the movie won prizes for directing, writing, production design and character design. SPIDER-VERSE is the first Sony Animation movie to dominate the Annies like this, with the prizes often going heavily to Pixar, Disney and Dreamworks. As for the movies that ate Spider-Man's dust, INCREDIBLES 2 walked away with two prizes for its storyboarding and music (Michael Giacchino), with other awards going to MIRAI, RALPH BREAKS THE INTERNET and MARY POPPINS RETURNS for its animation within a live action movie (cartoon penguins, and the like).
