I'm going to be honest, I've been a bit lukewarm about the upcoming third reboot of our favorite web-head, MCU's SPIDER-MAN: HOMECOMING. Not saying anything I've seen so far has been bad, and it certainly looks fun, it just seems that's all it is: not bad and fun. And sometimes that's all you need, but it's not something that puts me in a "oh my God I must see this" mode the way more visually unique or interesting superhero films coming out recently have (i.e. WONDER WOMAN or the upcoming THOR: RAGNAROK).
Having said all that, I am interested in the film's villain, Vulture, played by former Batman, Michael Keaton. Mainly because they seem to be going an interesting direction in him. He's basically a lower/working-class villain who's scraping by and decides to go into crime to help his family, because Tony Stark essentailly (even if inadvertantly) runs him out of the "cleaning up superhero fights" business, which could lead to some interesting conflict (especially since Peter and Aunt May are generally portrayed as poor/working class as well). It might actually deal with some of Stark's hypocrisy in the MCU, and it could even end with Spidey deciding he doesn't want to be an Avenger after all (similar to the CIVIL WAR comic-books where he is mentored by Tony, but decides to end up joining Captain America in the end). So we'll see how that plays out in the film itself.
In the meantime here's a featurette that apparently ran on the Disney Channel about the villain. Enjoy:
Meanwhile, SPIDER-MAN: HOMECOMING will swing into theaters July 7, 2017.
