Spider-Man: Homecoming director details the web-slingers new suits and tech

Spider-Man, Spider-Man, does whatever a spider can. Spins a web, any size, catches thieves just like flies. Look Out! Here comes the Spider-Man!  

Oh hey, I didn't see you there. You'll have to pardon my singing as I am totally in the Spider-Man zone after checking out the exciting new trailer for SPIDER-MAN: HOMECOMING that dropped this morning. Yeah yeah, I know that it features a few shots or scenarios that we've seen in previous Spidey films, but do you see me thinking any less of it as a result? As a huge fan of Marvel's friendly neighborhood web-slinger I am totally on board for a new Spider-Man film featuring Tom Holland and, awwwww yeah, Michael Keaton! With the Spidey train official pulled out of the station, we will no doubt be swamped with new information about the film as we get closer to its July 7, 2017 release date. So get ready, true believers, because we're about to web up some details about Spider-Man's many suits and advanced tech courtesy of the film's director Jon Watts and Spider-Man himeslf, Tom Holland.

In talking about how he'd describe Peter Parker, Tom Holland told The Hollywood Reporter that he's portraying the character, "different to the previous two. I felt very strongly about the question about what would happen if you gave a 15-year-old super powers. I think the answer would be he would have the time of his life. Yes, he would probably stop crime, but have so much fun doing it. We really tried to convey that he’s enjoying his superpowers. More often than not in superhero movies, the powers are a burden to the superhero but in our case, they’re the complete opposite."

Now, if you watch the new trailer for the film (featured above), you'll see that Spidey has a spider-drone that flies off of his chest emblem. Pretty cool, you guys, we're finally starting to embrace the gadget-related portion of Spider-Man's technical prowess. In regard to the additions to the hero's arsenal, director Jon Watts offered this comment, "There’s a precedent for it in the comic books because Tony Stark builds Peter a new suit,” Watts exclaimed. “Tony Stark is a very bells and whistles kind of guy. We had that set up in ‘Civil War.’ That was one of the fun brainstorm meetings: What could be in that suit? We made a list of all the neat things that Tony would put in there for Peter to discover or keep him safe. At one point, we just realized ‘what if that little spider could crawl out and move around and do surveillance?'”

Lastly, both Holland and Watts spoke on what they're most proud of in regard to the making of SPIDER-MAN: HOMECOMING, "I've never worked harder on anything in my life. It was a nonstop job and I felt so passionate and proud of what we were creating. I'm so proud that I was able to give my best, and I'm so grateful that I didn't get injured. I did a lot of stunts. At the very end, I fell down some stairs, and tweaked my ACL just a little bit," said Holland. Jon Watts then followed the actors statement with one of his own by saying, "I think it has a unique, surprising tone that's different from the others, and different from the other movies in this universe. I'm pretty proud of the tone we struck. It's fun. It's able to go from a very small story, and really emotional small stakes and just get bigger and bigger until it's on a massive scale without ever losing sight of the story we were trying to tell."

All things told, I'd say that SPIDER-MAN: HOMECOMING looks to be in very capable hands. Personally, I'm anticipating great performances from both Tom Holland and Micheal Keaton. Furthermore, the film boasts an incredibly diverse cast of actors to round out the support characters, marking SPIDER-MAN: HOMECOMING as a film that's willing to go the extra mile to be different and inclusive. I dig that sort of thing quite a bit.

SPIDER-MAN: HOMECOMING stars Tom Holland, Michael Keaton, Marisa Tomei, Robert Downey Jr., Zendaya, Donald Glover in addition to many, many others!  The film is set to swing into theaters on July 7, 2017.
