With SPIDER-MAN: FAR FROM HOME looking to swing back into theaters this week with extra footage, you can bet that Sony and Disney are eager to debut new promotional art for the anticipated extended cut. Recently shared by AMC Theaters, a new poster for the film combines Spidey's tricked out suit given to him by Tony Stark in AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR with that of a new Spider-Man Noir-like getup. In the film, pedestrians who see the friendly neighborhood wall-crawler webbing around in the black suit mistakenly refer to him as Spider-Monkey. It's two flavors of the web-slinging sensation that taste great together, and now it's here for all to enjoy!
Furthermore, it's recently been announced that the extended cut of SPIDER-MAN: FAR FROM HOME will feature seven more minutes of web-slinging action up on the big screen! That's 420 more seconds of Mysterio mayhem, class trip conundrums and Peter tingles!
Meanwhile, fans of Tom Holland's Spider-Man are still licking their wounds after word got out that Spider-Man will be exiting the MCU. Sadly, Disney and Sony were unable to rework the deal that allowed both companies to share custody of the character, even though the new terms would have arranged for a 50-50 co-financing split between the participating studios. Had the deal gone through, it also would have allowed for Disney to gain access to Sony's extended universe of Spider-Man-related characters, such as Tom Hardy's Venom. When confronted with the deal, Sony denied the terms outright. They didn't even make a counter offer. They simply wanted to keep the arrangement as is, with Disney receiving an approximate 5% of each Spider-Man film's initial gross. In the end, greed won above all, and Tom Holland's Spider-Man as a part of the MCU is no more.
Despite the Spider-Man split, both companies have big plans beyond the character. Disney this past weekend at D23 announced new Marvel projects destined for Disney+, such as MS. MARVEL, MOON KNIGHT, and SHE-HULK. It's also been reported by Geeks Worldwide that a MISS AMERICA TV series featuring America Chavez is reportedly in development as well. As for Sony, they're feeling real confident after the success of Tom Hardy's VENOM, as well as their SPIDER-MAN: INTO THE SPIDER-VERSE animated film winning an Oscar for Best Animated Feature. With that in mind, I think the important thing to remember is that Spidey isn't returning to the ether, but instead is poised to embark on a another adventure in another universe. That's better than losing him altogether, right?
