The trailer for Spider-Man: Across the Spider-verse only dropped two days ago, but it has already become the most-viewed trailer for the franchise, the highest-viewed second trailer for any recent Marvel film in a 24-hour period, and the highest-viewed superhero trailer of the summer. Deadline reports that the new trailer for the anticipated sequel to the 2018 animated film, Spider-Man: Into the Spider-verse has surpassed that of popular superhero trailers for this summer’s blockbusters, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3‘s 116.9 million views and The Flash‘s 81.6 million views in the first 24-hours with 148.6 million views.
The second trailers for movies usually reveal more in terms of plot and action to give a clearer picture of what the movie contains. And superhero blockbuster sequels are always a huge draw for audiences. Across the Spider-verse also became the highest-viewed second trailer of recent Marvel outings and beat out the likes of Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, which garnered 121.6 million views, Thor: Love and Thunder, which would generate 98.1 million views, the much-anticipated Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, which collected 84.8 million views, and this year’s Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, which tallied in at 83.8 million views.
Spider-Man: Into the Spider-verse became a runaway hit for Sony and Marvel when they brought the story of Miles Morales‘ incarnation of Spider-Man to the big screen for the first time and dabbled in the multiverse before the success of Spider-Man: No Way Home. Across the Spider-verse is the middle part of a planned trilogy. It sees the return of the original’s cast, including Shameik Moore, Hailee Steinfeld, and Jake Johnson, as well as a bevy of additions, including characters Miguel O’Hara, aka Spider-Man 2099, played by Oscar Isaac, Hobie Brown, aka Spider-Punk, played by Daniel Kaluuya, and Jessica Drew, aka Spider-Woman, played by Issa Rae.
Phil Lord and Christopher Miller are the film’s writers, alongside Dave Callaham. For this installment, Lord, Miller, Avi Arad, Amy Pascal, and Christina Steinberg will be pulling producing duties. In addition, Peter Ramsey, Bob Persichetti, Aditya Sood, Rodney Rothman, Rebecca Karch, and Brian Bendis are on board as executive producers.
Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse is slated to hit screens in June 2023.
