The MCU's Spider-Man 3 is poised to bring a host of beloved characters and actors back from across Sony's Spider-Man universe. Officially confirmed are Jamie Foxx's Electro, who appeared in The Amazing Spider-Man 2, and Alfred Molina's Doctor Octopus, who appeared in Spider-Man 2. There are rumors of even more returns which seem to point to some kind of live-action multiverse storyline happening but one actor who is shooting down a return is Dane DeHaan, who took on the Green Goblin role in The Amazing Spider-Man 2. Despite rumors going around that he's going to return, DeHaan says there is no truth to any of these rumors.
DeHaan did an interview with "Radio Times" that was picked up by "Fandom" and he was asked about the Spider-Man 3 rumors which he addressed with the following statement:
"There's no truth to those rumours. I don't even know how that would be pulled off. I would certainly love to make some kind of movie like that again. I like making superhero movies or in that kind of world and I'm sure I'll find myself in that world again. And I have no idea what they're doing with the Spider-Man movies now, but I don't really understand a world in which that would be possible."
DeHaan apparently hasn't heard of the multiverse which would make a return like that completely possible but it just appears that he's either playing very coy or he just hasn't been approached about a return. DeHaan played Harry Osborn in The Amazing Spider-Man 2 alongside Andrew Garfield's Peter Parker/Spider-Man. In the film, when New York is put under siege by Oscorp, it is up to Spider-Man to save the city he swore to protect as well as his loved ones. The film also stars Emma Stone, Jamie Foxx, Sally Field, Felicity Jones, and Paul Giamatti.
I haven't watched The Amazing Spider-Man 2 in quite a bit but I don't remember DeHaan and his portrayal of Harry Osborn/Green Gobin being one of the film's problems. In fact, if Jamie Foxx can return as Electro, an interpretation that wasn't really well-received by the fans, I don't see why DeHaan wouldn't be on the table as well. Perhaps they're holding out for a James Franco return as Harry Osborn. Only time will tell.
