Spawn movie taps a new writer in Brian Tucker

Spawn Movie new writer Brian Tucker

Todd McFarlane has been working on bringing Spawn back to the big screen for quite some time, but the project seems cursed to remain in development hell. However, the Spawn movie may have taken another step forward as THR has reported that a new writer has been tapped to pen the script.

Brian Tucker, the writer and producer behind Russell Crowe and Mark Wahlberg’s crime thriller Broken City, will write the screenplay for the Spawn movie. The project was originally scripted by Todd McFarlane, who is still attached to direct and produce. Just last month, Blumhouse Productions’ Jason Blum said that it was taking time to get the script right, but with Tucker now onboard, the Spawn movie will hopefully emerge from the limbo it has found itself in during the last few years. Brian Tucker also scripted Warner Bros.’ remake of The Fugitive, which is set to be directed by Albert Hughes. Jamie Foxx was once attached to play the title character with Jeremy Renner set to play Detective Twitch, but THR notes that they may not be involved anymore since so much time has passed since they initially signed on. Insiders told THR that Foxx and Renner could be re-approached once the new script for the Spawn movie is written.

Spawn follows Albert Simmons, a black-ops agent who is betrayed and murdered. Finding himself in hell, Simmons makes a deal with a demon to return to Earth and becomes the disfigured and superpowered spawn of hell. The Spawn movie isn’t the only Spawn-related project that Todd McFarlane is working on. It was announced earlier this summer that he’s also developing a TV series that will focus on Detectives Sam Burke and “Twitch” Williams, two of Spawn‘s most popular human characters who appeared in the very first issue of Spawn nearly thirty years ago.
