It’s been a long time coming, but the lead role for A GOOD DAY TO DIE HARD, the fifth installment in the DIE HARD franchise, has been cast. Perhaps it took them so long because the role will be scrutinized so much, as it will be the son of legendary John McClane (Bruce Willis, natch).
The role has finally gone to none other than Jai Courtney.
Who? Well he played Varro, one of the stars of “Spartacus: Vengeance”, and beat a ton of actors vying for the part like Aaron Paul, Paul Walker and James Badge Dale.
A GOOD DAY TO DIE HARD puts McClane on an international stage, truly a NYC fish out of water in Moscow, and introduces his estranged son Jack (Courtney). An apple that has not fallen far from the tree, Jack may even be more of a hardass than his father. Despite their differences, they must work together to keep each other alive and keep the world safe for democracy.
This of course will allow them to restart the franchise with Courtney as the main protagonist, something similar to what they tried (and failed) with Shia Labeouf and INDIANA JONES.
John Moore (MAX PAYNE, THE OMEN, BEHIND ENEMY LINES) will direct the film, and likely have to hurry up with it because it’s set for a romantic release date of February 14th, 2013.
After LIVE FREE AND DIE HARD I’m not sure how excited I am to see any more installments, but what do you folks think? Could some new blood be what the series needs?
