Quick! Send out a distress signal to every satellite in the known galaxy and alert every extraterrestrial that Adam Sandler is heading to space. Maybe, if we give the aliens a fair warning, we won't be responsible for what inevitably happens next. Word has come in that Promising Young Woman actress Carey Mulligan is joining the cast of Adam Sandler's Netflix feature Spaceman.
Previously known as The Spaceman of Bohemia and based on Jaroslav Kalfar’s novel, Spaceman follows an astronaut (Sandler) sent to the edge of the galaxy to collect mysterious ancient dust. He soon finds his earthly life falling to pieces, and he turns to the only voice who can help him try to put it back together. It just so happens to belong to a creature from the beginning of time lurking in the shadows of his ship.
Best Actress nominee Carey Mulligan will play the wife of Sandler's space explorer character. Emmy-winning Chernobyl helmer Johan Renck is set to direct from a screenplay adapted by Colby Day (Storefront, Perks).
Producing Spaceman is Channing Tatum (yes, that Channing Tatum), Reid Carolin, Peter Kiernan, and Michael Parets for Free Association. Parets will oversee the project for Free Association and Tim Headington, Lia Buman and Max Silva will oversee for Tango Entertainment. Meanwhile, Ben Ormand, Renck, and Barry Bernardi will executive produce.
Spaceman will be Mulligan's fifth film on Netflix, after starring in films like Mudbound, The Dig, the upcoming Bradley Cooper Leonard Bernstein movie Maestro, and finally, the 2018 BBC mini-series Collateral.
Mulligan recently brought the house down as Cassandra in Emerald Fennell's Promising Young Woman. In the film, Cassandra, who's been traumatized by a tragic event in her past, seeks out vengeance against those who crossed her path. You know what that means, right? Some dudes are about to get got and don't they deserve it?
