Space Jam back in 1996 was something special. It had a legend of a player with Michael Jordan, and who doesn't love Bugs Bunny and the rest of the Looney Tunes? This clever flick cemented itself in the hearts of film fans all over the world. It remains a classic family feature today. Imagine being the man who has the challenge of bringing fans a brand new zany trip that merges basketball, legends, and our animated heroes to life once again. For the long-awaited sequel Space Jam: A New Legacy, that man happens to be the very talented Malcolm D. Lee. And of course, the film features LeBron James, and some serious, and familiar talent, including Don Cheadle, who help make this sequel one that will bring fans back on the court for a bit of animated lunacy.
Recently, I had the wonderful opportunity to speak with Mr. Malcolm D. Lee about the new film. Lee's impressive feature film work makes him an exciting choice as the man behind a new Space Jam, partly because of the balance of heart and humor he's able to show as a filmmaker. Coming from films such as The Best Man, Undercover Brother, Girls Trip, and Night School, Lee opened up about taking on such a massive project like this. The original has an impressive fanbase still, to this day, and thankfully, the filmmaker managed to take what worked before and add a little extra heart to the mix. Malcolm talked about working with "King James", the massively talented Don Cheadle, and of course, the young star of the film, Cedric Lee.
In the meantime, the Toon Squad themselves, Bugs Bunny and Lola, actually found the time to drop in on the JoBlo offices and pay a visit to our CEO and founder, Berge Garabedian. Check out the pics!
Space Jam: A New Legacy has a whole lot of charm, and you have the choice of checking it out in the comfort of your home on HBO Max or heading to the theatre to see LeBron James and Bugs Bunny (and of course Daffy Duck) in action! Let's get into the game!
