The second South Park: Post COVID TV film lands a December release date

Paramount+ has announced that the second South Park: Post COVID TV film will premiere on December 16. Titled South Park: Post COVID: The Return of COVID, this will be the second of 14 made-for-TV films from Matt Stone and Trey Parker designed exclusively for Paramount+.

Here’s the official synopsis for South Park: Post COVID: The Return of COVID:

“If Stan, Kyle, and Cartman could just work together, they could go back in time to make sure COVID never happened and save Kenny’s life. In South Park: Post COVID: The Return of COVID, traveling back to the past seems to be the easy answer until they meet Victor Chaos.” Oh, snap! Doctor Chaos is back, y’all! How our sweet little Butters ever managed to conjure such a vindictive villain I’ll never know. Then again, the manifestation of Doctor Chaos is likely the result of relentless social ridicule, pre-teen pressure, and poor parenting.

The first film in the South Park Post COVID series is set 40 years in the future when the South Park gang are adults and reunite for an unknown problem. In the made-for-TV film, Cartman and the gang take aim at woke culture, the unvaccinated population, and other things related to a pandemic that’s lasted for far too long.

Each South Park: Post COVID TV film and other projects fall under a massive deal that finds Parker and Stone producing more South Park through 2027. You already know that the deal includes 14 made-for-TV projects, but it also means the core series has been renewed through Season 30. That’s a whole lot of South Park if you ask me.

Did you tune in for the first South Park: Post COVID film when it infected Paramount+? Do you think the COVID theme will run across all 14 installments or will Trey and Parker switch gears sometime down the line to include other subject matter? It’s been so long since I checked in with South Park, though the team must be doing something right if plans are to make the show through 2027.
