During Universal Pictures’ CinemaCon 2016 presentation, Illumination Entertainment founder and CEO Chris Meledandri announced that Trey Parker has joined the voice cast of DESPICABLE ME 3. This comes as a bit of a surprise since the South Park co-creator isn't known for doing family-friendly films or projects that he doesn't have a hand in developing.
Parker will play Balthazar Bratt, "an ’80s child star obsessed with the character he used to play and nemesis to Steve Carell‘s Gru." Of course Carell will be back as Gru, however he will also be voicing "Gru’s long lost identical twin Drew, his exact lookalike save for a luxurious head of blond hair."
Pierre Coffin (who co-helmed the first two movies) and his MINIONS co-director Kyle Balda will also return for the threequel, as well as character designer Eric Guillon.
DESPICABLE ME 3 is due out on June 30, 2017, while South Park Season 20 will premiere on Comedy Central on September 14, 2016.
