Updated: Sources reveal director and team line-up for Avengers: Infinity War

UPDATE: The Wrap now confirms that Joe and Anthony Russo will helm both AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR – PART 1 and PART 2.

With CAPTAIN AMERICA: CIVIL WAR not even filming yet, it looks like we now know who will be directing AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR – PART I along with the make-up of which heroes will comprise the super squad in the 2018 blockbuster. Keep in mind that there has been no official release from Marvel or Disney, so until that point these are classified as rumors, but according to Badass Digest, AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR – PART 1 will be helmed by Joe and Anthony Russo.

The rumblings about this began back when Joss Whedon said he likely would not return for the third AVENGERS flick. The Russos have been studio darlings since CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE WINTER SOLDIER blew critics and audiences away. The siblings have been top contenders to helm AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR – PART 1 despite signing a recent deal with Sony may presumed would lead to them being involved with the SPIDER-MAN reboot.

As far as the team make-up for the movie, we have all been expecting a shift in which heroes will be considered Avengers and The India Times says the team will actually feature a core squad made up of Falcon, Scarlet Witch, The Vision, and War Machine. The team will be led by Captain America and Black Widow. This leaves a lot of characters out, some of whom will be dead, missing, or retired.

AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR – PART 1 will be a huge project with some theorizing the heroes not in the first part will show up in INFINITY WAR – PART 2. Whether any of this pans out remains to be seen, but we will know more about who lives and dies when AVENGERS: AGE OF ULTRON hits theaters on May 1st.
