The fire around Sound of Freedom still isn’t entirely out but already director Alejandro Monteverde has set up his next movie, the biopic Cabrini.
As per Deadline, Cabrini “tells the story of Francesca Cabrini, a poor, audacious Italian immigrant who became one of the great entrepreneurs of the 19th century. Through her willpower, courage, compassion, and business skill, she overcame sexism and violent anti-Italian bigotry while fighting against an establishment seeking to hold her back.” Alejandro Monteverde will again be teaming with Angel Studios, who released Sound of Freedom.
As per a statement from Angel Studios’ COO, “Francesca Cabrini is one of the most inspiring and influential figures in modern history, and yet few know her story. Faced with seemingly insurmountable life obstacles, Cabrini chose instead to focus on how she could change the status quo in her time, and her impact on the world is still felt today…We’re thrilled to be able to share her unbelievable story in theaters this Spring. This will be our second collaboration with Sound of Freedom director Alejandro Monteverde—and the Angel Guild gave this film even higher ratings than Sound of Freedom. Our community has high expectations for this project.”
Alejandro Monteverde’s Sound of Freedom has proven to be a surprise hit at the box office, pulling in nearly $200 million since its release. That puts it in the top 10 for the year so far, just behind John Wick: Chapter 4 and ahead of Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny. The success of the movie – which had a budget around $15 million – has proven befuddling and controversial, as many have linked the movie’s ideas to those promoted by conspiracy group QAnon, something Monteverde was forced to confront. There has been so much chatter around the movie that it was chosen to kick off a new series on our website, JoBlo Scandals, the video of which is embedded at the bottom of this article.
Cabrini stars Cristiana Dell’Anna as the titular figure, with a supporting cast that features John Lithgow, David Morse, Giancarol Giannini, and Federico Castelluccio.
Cabrini arrives in theaters on March 8th, 2024.
Do you think Alejandro Monteverde can turn Cabrini into the box office success that Sound of Freedom has been? Or is his popularity limited to his topics? Give us your take below.
