Sony’s Uncharted loses Travis Knight as director amidst scheduling conflicts

Uncharted, Travis Knight, Tom Holland

Just when you thought that having BUMBLEBEE director Travis Knight at the helm of Sony's UNCHARTED was a sign of great things to come, its been reported that Tom Holland's Spider-Man schedule will result in the film having to sacrifice its director.

This unfortunate news of UNCHARTED being knocked off course hails from Deadline, who in a recent report stated that despite Knight's surprise exit from the project, Holland and Mark Wahlberg remain attached to the long-gestating endeavor. According to sources, Sony has all intentions of replacing Knight as the director of UNCHARTED and will announce a new release date as soon as the matter is settled. For the moment, Rafe Judkins and IRON MAN scribes Art Marcum & Matt Holloway are still in charge of the current screenplay for the action-adventure adaptation of Sony's top-selling video game franchise.

As you're likely to be aware, Knight's departure from Sony's UNCHARTED marks yet another setback for the project, which in the past has seen creatives the likes of David O. Russell (THE FIGHTER), Neil Burger (DIVERGENT), Seth Gordon (HORRIBLE BOSSES), Shawn Levy (STRANGER THINGS), and Dan Trachtenberg (THE BOYS) all take their leave for a variety of reasons.

Created by Naughty Dog and published by PlayStation, the Uncharted video game series revolves around the globe-trotting adventures of Nathan Drake, an explorer who continuously finds himself at war with rival seekers of artifacts that, once acquired, could help shape the future of mankind in ways never though possible. For the film that is currently under construction, Holland will assume the role of Nathan Drake, while Wahlberg has recently been cast as Drake's long-time exploring partner and friend, Victor "Sully" Sullivan. The movie had previously been scheduled for a December 2020 release, though without a director, the movie will now need to be moved to a later date.
