Sony wants Halle Berry to lead a remake of the 1985 thriller Jagged Edge

According to a report posted by Deadline Hollywood, Sony Pictures is busy manipulating stars, in the hope that, once they've aligned, a remake of the 1985 thriller JAGGED EDGE starring Halle Berry can come to light. The article states that Steven Bersch, the Sony Worldwide Acquisitions Group leader who now presides over the studio's Screen Gems banner, is the one who's trying to make it happen. While there's no guarantee that the project will go to Screen Gems, the hunt for a writer to draft the proposed feature is officially on.

For those of you who might not recall, the original JAGGED EDGE, which starred Glenn CloseJeff Bridges and Robert Loggia, was helmed by Richard Marquand (STAR WARS: EPISODE VI: RETURN OF THE JEDI) and written by Joe Eszterhas (BASIC INSTINCT, SHOWGIRLS). The film centered on a San Francisco heiress named Page Forrester, who is brutally murdered in her remote beach house. Her husband Jack is devastated by the crime but soon finds himself accused of her murder. He then hires a lawyer by the name of Teddy Barnes to defend him, despite the fact she hasn't handled a criminal case for many years. There's a certain chemistry between them and Teddy soon finds herself defending the man she loves. It's a sordid tale of deception, courtroom drama, and a man who, like Tootles from Steven Spielberg's HOOK, may have lost his marbles.

Halle Berry, who for many years acted as Storm for Fox's X-Men franchise, most recently appeared as Ginger for Matthew Vaughn's KINGSMAN: THE GOLDEN CIRCLE. Should the deal for JAGGED EDGE come to pass, the CATWOMAN actress may once again find herself at the center of a nail-biting thriller with more than a few twists.
