As San Diego Comic-Con continues to web up new content to share with eager fans of franchises across the entertainment stratosphere, Sony has decided to flex their VENOM muscle, once again, by unleashing more information about the anti-hero’s upcoming solo adventure.
As part of Sony's panel at this year's Comic-Con celebration, the studio offered an eager crowd some juicy new details about the film. Thankfully, our own Paul Shirey was there to gather all the news, and share it with you fine people via our official Twitter feed. I'll be collecting some of Paul's tweets throughout the showcase, and sharing them with you here. Let's get started, True Believers!
To start, Paul was instructed to wear a Venom-themed face mask during the presentation, perfect for that gnarly Comic-Con breath, amiright?
Following their talk, the crowd was shown a new trailer for VENOM that contained a lot more footage than the first two.
Next, Paul weighed in with some of his own thoughts about what he'd just seen.
Tom Hardy and Ruben Fleischer then returned to the stage, more pumped for the film than ever before.
Last but not least, a fan of the site came over to Paul at the end of the presentation to tell us that we're SUPER AWESOME! Thanks so much!
Back in February, Sony released a teaser trailer made from unfinished footage that left fans of the character reeling with anger and disappointment. Shortly thereafter, the studio came out swinging with a proper trailer that featured Tom Hardy as the sinister symbiote in all of its chaotic glory. The reveal of Venom’s hulking form was enough to satisfy some Marvel enthusiasts, though in a time when few are willing to give movies the benefit of the doubt before viewing the finished product, there are still many who are waiting to be convinced of the first film slated for Sony’s planned Spider-Verse initiative.
It should prove interesting to hear what people think of the latest details surrounding the project, as there are several other films in development for Sony’s Spider-verse including: MORBIUS, THE LIVING VAMPIRE starring Jared Leto, and SILK featuring Marvel’s Cindy Moon. Meanwhile, Sony’s plans for SILVER & BLACK featuring the characters Silver Sable and Felicia Hardy a.k.a. Black Cat remain in flux at this time. In fact, the last time we'd checked Sony had removed the film from its schedule.
In VENOM, journalist Eddie Brock begins an investigation into the Life Foundation and its equivocal leader, Dr. Carlton Drake (Riz Ahmed). After venturing too deep into the mystery, Eddie is exposed to a swirling, black alien mass known as a symbiote. Once bonded with the creature, Eddie is granted unimaginable powers while sharing his thoughts and actions with a bizarre and violent entity called Venom.
Directed by Ruben Fleischer (ZOMBIELAND, 20 MINUTES OR LESS) from a script penned by Kelly Marcel and Will Beall, VENOM stars Tom Hardy (THE DARK KNIGHT RISES, MAD MAX: FURY ROAD) as Eddie Brock. Joining Hardy for the decidedly violent solo venture are Michelle Williams, Jenny Slate, Woody Harrelson, and Riz Ahmed. VENOM will slither its way into theaters on October 5th.
